The Bareiss Abrasion Tester was developed in full compliance with ASTM D5963 and ISO4649 test standards. The main purpose is to understand the volume and weight which wear off or abrade on soft and elastic materials, like tires, belts, conveyor belts and shoe soles. The wear test process involves grinding a sample horizontally or in rotation under the specified force into a rotating shaft tube with friction paper. Alternatively, the drum heating device can be used to warm the samples in the process of abrasion to simulate the wear of materials such as rubber at high temperature.
Ranges of application
Determination of the resistance of elastomers against abrasion for rubber products such as tires, conveyor belts, tubes, shoes soles, floor coatings etc.
DIN ISO 4649, NF ISO 4649, ASTM D 5963
ISO 4649:2010 specifies two methods for the determination of the resistance of rubber to abrasion by means of a rotating cylindrical drum device.
The methods involve determination of the volume loss due to the abrasive action of rubbing a test piece over a specified grade of abrasive sheet.
Method A is for a non-rotating test piece and method B for a rotating test piece. For each method, the result can be reported as a relative volume loss or an abrasion resistance index.
Bareiss offers the following accessories for the abrasion tester
